The Jayhawks were unlikely champions in 1988 after finishing the season with 11 losses and in third place in the Big Eight. The Larry Brown led squad went on an unpredictable run in the NCAA tournament, taking out #18 Xavier, # 20 Kansas State, #5 Duke and in the title game, #4 Oklahoma. The 83-79 win on April 4 brought the school their second national championship.
